I have two Kenwood TM-271 that I use a couple of times per year when going on boat trips. We are going on a trip so I got them out to check them out and I can't get them to transmit. Since they are both doing the same thing I feel that it is probably operator error rather than the equipments fault. I am not much of ham radio operator.

The problem is when I go to transmit the radio turns off and then comes back on. There is no transmission.
Both the radios do it but they will both receive just fine. I have reset both radios a few times but that was no help. I have read the manual but can't seem to find the problem in there.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

How old or new are these radios?

It sounds like you are using a power source that will not supply enough current to
the radios. What are you using as a power source to test them?

Also make sure they are set to transmit low power if your power source is not
up to the task as you may have them on high power.

I agree with the low current issue.

Fortunately, GA
Each transceiver requires at least 13 amps of current @ a minimum of 12 volts on high power. Each radio requires an antenna that has under 2.0 SWR. Too little amps, volts, and to much SWR will shut down a transceiver every time. Make sure of your power supply, and that the antennas will provide the proper match to operate. You don't want to operate both radios on the same antenna at the same time. Not good for the radios.

Thanks to everyone. The problem was the low power supply. I got that fixed and they worked like they always have.

Thanks Again
