• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I have seen these before and I have mixed results, Mostly negative. I think they are in the same catagory as the Pringle's can antenna. For a prosumer like us on this site I would say stick with an antenna that was designed for scanner with BNC connection.. http://www.cantenna.com/

For less than $5 you could do it yourself.

I used two slinkys for leggs of a dipole a while back and it worked fairly well. It's a good way to go if you don't have alot of room.

The Slinky dipole has been around for a while, except now slinkys are made of plastic. I have a sneaky feeling they wouldn't work too well as an antenna, and I know for a fact they don't go down stairs as well as the metal ones did.
