Sometimes I hear an OPP officer telling dispatch that he/she will be doing "Block Training".
Anybody know what that is?

Block training refers to the manditory training an officer has to requalify in every year such as firearms, use of Force referesher, First Aid and CPR..yadda yadda. Block training also helps train the officers on the road on any new case law. Every officer, regardless of service has this refresher or block training.....

It usually occurs up in Gravenhurst just down the road from the OFC (Ontario Fire College).

The officers do their block training at the training grounds down the road and use the OFC for their meals and accomodation.

Usually if you drop by the fire college, you will almost certainly see at least 2 or 3 OPP units in the parking lot.

maybe for the OPP......but not everyone sends their troops to Gravenhurst! Most do their's inhouse. Smaller agencies will group together to conduct their block training as a cost saving move. Either way, it's manditory for annual block training.
