Hello all. I ordered a SDS100 from ZipScanners on Sunday. I didn't even realize on their website it said out of stock, taking backorders. The only reason I ordered from them instead of Bearcat Warehouse is because Zipscanners has free shipping, while Bearcat Warehouse was still trying to make me pay almost $20 for shipping. I looked at ZipScanners website and they state that they get a shipment of scanners in once a month. I was just curious what is everyone elses experience with ZipScanners and shipping time. How long did it take to get yours? Do they actually get one shipment a month?

Thank you!

I'm going to keep this post to a minimum. Contact zip and cancel your order. If they've already charged your credit card ask for a refund. They don't want the $20 charge if you contest it.

I'm not in a position right now to check and do all the legwork for you but I think if you go to HRO, and forgive me if I haven't done the research, I'm not in a position to do so. You should be able to get it for $649 and you'll have it in no time.

Keep in mind that Ham Radio Outlet has a VERY SHORT 10-day return window and they charge a 15% restocking fee to return non-defective merchandise during that 10-day window. The following is verbatim from their website: "Defective items may be returned for an exchange, return or upgrade within 10 days of the purchase date. Non-defective items returned within 10 days for credit or refund will be subject to a minimum 15% re-stocking fee. Special order items, cut cables, software and books are non-returnable. All return freight charges are the responsibility of the customer."

For comparison purposes, Bearcat Warehouse has a 30-day return window.

Another factor to consider (which applies to the OP as he is located in Georgia per his post) is that Ham Radio Outlet charges sales tax if you are shipping to any of the following 41 states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, ID IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, NE, NM, NV, NJ, NC, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WI, WV, & WY. Calculating the 4% Georgia state sales tax on $650 for the SDS100, HRO would add an additional $26 to the OP's invoice.

Bearcat Warehouse charges sales tax only to shipments going to Maryland (where they are located) so the OP would be exempt from paying any state sales tax to Bearcat Warehouse. The $26 saved on Georgia sales tax would more than cover the "almost $20" for shipping charges that the OP mentioned in his post. FWIW

There you go, buy it from Bearcat Warehouse, I have bought many items from them. The last thing I bought from hro was in person after driving to the Delaware store in the 90s. Again, unfortunately I'm not in a position to sit around and research all of this for you when it is so easy for you to do it yourself.

I have to research it but try Main Trading Company LOL. Again I have not looked this up and have got to go. :) good night.

I just got home and can research this, in stock at Bearcat Warehouse as of today at $649, they have the 30 day money back guarantee and are a reputable vendor.

I've always had promotional free shipping from Bearcat Warehouse but I don't see any promotions now.

As far as zip scanners goes, I had dealings with them in 2018 and was not satisfied. At one time there was a lot of negative feedback about zip scanners but I have no idea what they're like today. I recommend you look them up on a search. Good luck.

Thank you all for the information. I see now that HRO has them in stock for $649, and they also ship out of Atlanta (about 45 mins from me) so if I ordered from them in the first place I probably would have it by now. If Zipscanners doesn't ship it in the next couple days I will most likely cancel the order and order it from someone else. I just don't like having a $650 charge on my bank account while not even having a estimate of when the scanner will be shipped. If it comes to it I will also look at bearcat warehouse, I just didn't like how you still had to pay shipping with a $650 order.

Thanks all.

And keep in mind that even though BearCat Warehouse does not charge you sales tax, most states require you to report out of state purchases that did not charge you sales tax and you are to pay the tax directly to your state.

Scannermaster charges no sales tax and offers free shipping. Rich can give you an idea of how soon their next shipment might be. IMO, they’re the gold standard in scanner sales.
Yep I would have recommended them if it wasn't for the fact they are out of stock. GigaParts was also out of stock.

Bwahahahahahaha! I just can't tell you how many times I've notified our NYS Department of Taxation and Finance of sales tax-free purchases I made.

Oh wait. I can!

Exactly none.

Yep John, it was paying taxes at HRO vs paying shipping at BCW. :)
I'd love to know the statistics of those who actually report that they didn't pay sales tax on a purchase and actually put it on their tax form. I imagine there's a few.;)

When I bought my HP2 from Bearcat warehouse 2 weeks ago it was free shipping... if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page put a check mark in free shipping.

Wow Bob550, publicly admitting that you have committed fraud on your NY Income tax return. Bwahahahahahaha!
You're correct John and I thought the same thing but no worries for Bob. There's no way they could ever trace or track or prosecute the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people who do the same thing just for a few bucks.

Myself... oh, I'm squeaky clean. :sneaky:

I remember the good ole days before Amazon started charging sales tax. That's when purchases from Amazon were a true bargain. On something like an SDS100 or 200, in some municipalities, that will add another $70 or so to your purchase.

MStep, having spent more than 50 years in the field of taxation at the Federal State and Local levels I can tell you that the Amazon's were a real sore spot with politicians on the State and Local levels. Amazon pushed the States into banding together to share information so they can squeeze every tax dollar they can. It is not smart poking the bear in the eye today.

Oh did I ever know that, and the proverbial "writing" was on the wall way before it happened. And I was running a nationwide mail-order business and had to start collecting individual rates for every state--- what a horror show that was. But getting back to the OP's post--- please keep us advised how your purchase works out with Zip Scanners. They seem to get mixed reviews.
