• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

OK I got this radio long ago in a package deal. I got it all out today and thought I would program it up and install it on my boat but I am having some troubles with it. First it will not TX. I key up and it just beeps and does nothing no TX light and no TX NOTHING. 2nd it will not change channels.... 3 rd I try and test from one of my hand helds and the bsy light comes on but nothing out the speaker. I know the speaker is working as I get the beeps from the radio. Last is when I power up the radio does say

NO LOCK
ERR=0401

I have loaded fresh pers. with no read from the radio and I loaded the one that was there when I got the radio out of the box. What can I do to make this radio work?

Just an update I found out that the radio had the wrong control head programed to it. I set it for the right head and that fixed the tx and rx problem now I still get the no lock err=0401 on power up

No lock means the radio is not tuning to the frequency the personality is giving it. This is either because you have an SC4 file that is 'adjusting' your frequencies after ProGrammer has written them to the radio (not likely) Or the radio itself has a serious alignment issue that is causing it to not lock.

The solution to this is verify that it functions with a brand new clear personality with 1 channel in it like the weather service radio, and see if it locks then. If it still error 401s, then you will need to realign the radio/repair the VCO to get it back in spec.

I found in digital voice opp. tht encry. was set to forced on. I changed that to auto set and that got rid of the err code. Not sure where this radio came from but it was not at all set up right. I bought a converta-com for my 700i and this just came with the package. Now that I have it working I am going to install it on my boat as I don't have any use for it and its a nice radio will be great for the boat. Thanks for the help

I've got a 440-470 Orion that is kind of doing the same thing. It shows the NO LOCK ERROR=401 when I input 458.xxx or 457.xxx as the TX frequency. However, if I do any other frequency in the band split, it will transmit just fine.

Any suggestions?
