During a ten day period in Orlando in July, I've attempted to use the same 2m, as well as 70cm repeaters in the Orlando/Orange County vacinity. Knew that I was hitting the repeaters from the tenth floor of Rosen Plaza. Was either ignored or talked-around. Not a very friendly bunch in the Orlando area for us out-of-towners. Too bad all the way around.

I've found the same when I go up there for conferences n such.
Seems like the only "friendly time" is when the hamfest is in town
in February and its hard to tell who the locals are at that point.

I'm a fairly new ham and I'm finding that almost no one is friendly on the local repeaters.

I've tried several times to get on but I'm always ignored. I've joined the local club so my money is helping pay for the repeater but unless they know you they don't seem to want to talk.

I understand the 145.210 repeater with a 103.5 tone ( I think), has been freindly in the past with an open group. Also you will find 146.565 simplex is a local talk- around frequency and folks have answered a "Listening or CQ" and been interested in new contacts. In seminole county north of Orlando I have found the local ARES repeater on 147.165 pl 103.5 a friendly repeater. 73 Ray KB4OMO

In my frequent travels around Florida, I've found that most local repeater groups are accomodating and downright friendly in the best tradition of our amateur radio fraternity. Orlando is the unfortunate and unfriendly exception (luckily) and not the rule in the Sunshine State.
