Here is a portion of the mayor's budget message as it pertains to public safety. Many new positions and a change to all digital radios for police and fire.

"This multi-year program will also dedicate bondable revenue to capital improvements resulting in more than $65 million in public safety projects.
Specifically, I am asking that we devote $12.1 million dollars this year and $17.9 million dollars each year thereafter to protect our citizens and visitors by funding:
· 75 additional police officers to patrol our neighborhoods and protect our children and seniors;
· Two detectives in the violent crimes section of our Investigative Bureau;
· Three new fire stations with 45 new fire personnel;
· The addition of two police sub-stations to serve the southeast and southwest parts of our City;
· Construction of a state-of-the-art, OPD training center that would ensure our officers get the most up-to-date training;
· Installation of a new high-tech, digital communication system that will soon be the standard around Orange County and will allow all of our region’s public safety departments to communicate;
· And, 13 new communication specialists who are the first people our citizens talk to in an emergency situation."

I'm sure that at least some of the city talkgroups will be encrypted. The route the city is taking is actually going to make it harder for full interoperability with the county. I think they will run into problems with fire joint response.

This is the biggest increase OPD has ever had. It is intersting to see the old rust belt states like Michigan having budget problems and the southern states running big budget surplusses.

Hi Jason,

Will OCSO be totally encrypted or just special units? BTW check your PM - I will be in the Orlando area in mid August.

Hey,

I don't know, who knows what goes through these comm managers minds, and fire interoperability heheh, OFD and OCFRD never had much of that, and definately no interoperability with RMA, yes RMA is on the TACS now but man that was one hell of a fight, the Unions hate RMA, and there is a big difference Dispatching for RMA vs OCFRD, being an ex-RMA Dispatcher was not a pleasant experience at OCFRD

Joe I am out on the road and doubt i will be back in time - i will pm you

The mayor just announced the city was allocating several millions of dollars for police and fire. I don't know if they have finalized all the plans. I have not heard other than going all digital. Good hearing from you. gill
