As is usual for the media, they have focused their attention on Galveston and Houston for damage from Hurricane Ike. This is not to say that these areas do not deserve coverage and that they did not take the brunt of the storm.

But Ike also tore through the midwest. Northeastern Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan also were hit and in some places hit hard as Ike blew by.

The company I work for is located in the Dayton, Ohio area. When I tried to get to my company email this morning, the server was down. Not to mention my boss was not on line (we all work remotely). So I checked the local news for Dayton.

Ike left nearly two million (that is a 2 followed by 6 zeros) without power. Reports are saying some people may be without power for the rest of the week.

So if anyone else has an Ike related story or info on what they have heard related to Ike outside of the Texas/LA area, let's post it here.

By the time it made it up to Toronto it packed winds up to 55 MPH. Luckily we didnt get much rain and it moved far enough north of us that Sunday was a rare hot day.

A bunch of trees went down, twigs, etc.

Another reason why Toronto is located in the safest part of the world (if you can tolerate lots of clouds, wind).

There was a TON of power outages in the IN/OH area. A 911 center in IN got taken out, the back up power systems all failed.
Lots of flooding in Chicagoland area.

75 or so mph reported and verified wind gusts Sunday afternoon here in Central Ohio. MANY trees and power lines down, including a 16-18 diameter tree at a house behind me and one house over. That tree took the primary to the ground, along with Time Warner cable, Ameritec lines, Wow lines, etc. I lost power at 4:07 PM and as of this minute still am without. Tuesday 11:50 AM local time. I have been monitoring American Electric Power and they are not even close to my house yet. Thet are basically working outages from the sub-stations outward. And, the AEP workforce is reduced due to sending crews to Texas. The tree crews haven't even come yet to take the tree down, which must be done prior to AEP putting lines back up. Todays paper said it might be another 6 days before power is restored.

We had lots of wind damage here in SE Missouri & Northeast Arkansas. There are 4 towns close to me who lost power Sunday and are still down. There were two trees that fell on house trailers and killed two people.

After the storm, in KY and IN over half a million people were without power and I heard another 300,000 in OH.In KY that is now down to around 60,000 - 70,000 and about 20,000 in IN. Here in Louisville my area lost power for 3 days. Some are still down.
