I Know that Otis AFB has been taken out of the picture due to the BRAC hearings where will the the gap in coverage to the air defence of the northeast states be located and what are the freqs that we need to use to provide coverage ? Will the scramble freqs change?

With the BRAC Commission and the Pentagon in the decision process, the new location might be unknown to those people. They seem to act without taking many things into consideration.

One will just have to follow the activities for the areas of concern and see what happens in the last phase of the BRAC decisions when the President approves or disapproves of the final recommendations.

Sad to see Otis AFB being taken away, they have served this country and deserve more than just a name on a BRAC report.

Agreed!

I live less than a quarter mile from one of the runways at Otis ANGB, and am saddened that it, more than likely, will be gone in the next few years probably. I have had the pleasure of monitoring the 102nd Fighter Intercept Wing F15's that fly out of there on numerous occasions, as well as the ground OPS frequencies that come from there, most recently in APCO-25 Mode!

Since 9/11, we have all heard the stories regarding Otis ANGB and their role in the terrorist attacks as first responders, and this is what puzzles me! Strategic location has not seemed to factor into the BRAC decisions, nevermind the economic repercussions that this area will face when it closes. There is still a slight (?) glimmer of hope that this decision could be overturned, but my instincts tell me even the "Political Power" of some of Massachusett's Political Heavyweights may not be enough! Sad!

from the news:

In an unexpected move, the Base Closure and Realignment Commission also voted unanimously to transfer 18 F-15 fighter jets from Otis to Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield, Massachusetts.

Jees, that's good news for me here in the Berkshires but Barnes will have to do some 'expanding' to handle the aircraft....Heard that the 103rd's A-10's from Connecticut were coming there too but maybe they re-thought that move....
