I keep getting a garbled P25 signal on 171.32500

Lg Fire Support Cmd
Federal Wildland Fire
National Interagency Fire Center U.S. Government

Any ideas on what this could be? Are they really using P25 now?

All of our Daniels portable repeaters are P25 capable and many of the kits of VHF handheld radios from Boise are P25 capable.
Most fires have too many contractors and firefighters from districts and forests that are not digital yet so we generally run the frequencies in analog mode.
There are some tests going on, mostly on prescribed fires where all the players are on hand ahead of time and the proper radios can be handed out with the appropriate instructions, to gauge the effectiveness of P25 in the wildfire setting.

It is also possible that frequency is no longer exclusive fire. We had many of our tacticals taken away from us this year for use by other agencies (think the fastest growing and nearly universally despised).

The frequency you listed is not on the national list of fire frequencies for this year, and no I cannot give you the list of national frequencies, sorry. ;-)

That Freq has been reported in AZ with two different NAC Codes.

Unfortunately no one has been able to ID the agency

That same agency's parent has declared those frequencies as "confidential" due to possible security concerns.
They can't do anything to those that pick them up off the air, but those of us that get a paycheck from the govt have signed certain pieces of paper........

The airwaves belong to the people and our tax dollars paid for the equipment. If the frequencies are not listed in the public FCC data base then a Freedom of Information Act Request should be filed. Then the agency will need to explain why the frequencies are "Top Secret".

a.) Federal Frequencies are not coordinated by the FCC
b.) 98% of Federal Agencies are not "Top Secret" or "Secret" but are FOUO

:D

There is nothing secret about it, 171.325 is customs off of Bill williams Mtn. and Mingus and some others in Northern AZ. You will also hear 171.1875 in parallel at times depending on which voting site is active.

This is a customs conventional voting system and they are using AES encryption; however, you will hear air units at times operating in clear P25..

most commonly referred to as vote scan 13 around here

there are more freqs used with this system but those 2 are the strongest in signal

most units you will hear are in kingman to wickenburg Hwy 93 to I-40 seligman area at times

but most action takes place in the kingman area

only 2 radio ids that are default 1 and 4095

Just to clarify the point, the Fed channels are not assigned or controlled by the FCC. They are assigned and controlled by NTIA which is a Federal activity.

Is it P25/Enc ?

I seem to recall someone passing along that freq in AZ as part of the Integrated Wireless Federal Network.

Have you caught any Forestry or Fire related activity?

No big secreat on the national List.

If your anywhere near a project fire you can do one of 2 things:
1) search 163.000 to 174.000
2) swing by a project fire camp the frequencies for that fire are in what none as the comms plan. I bet you will find one laying around the camp somewhere. Or ask a fire fighter they share a lot of good information.
