I'm not having any trouble with programming or anything, I was just wondering if Project 25 was a trunked system or a modulation mode. And what is P25 CAI and P25 Standard? I thought there was just a Phase I and Phase II. Thanks.

P25 simply denotes a digital transmission. You may see P25 (digital) transmissions used on 'Project 25' trunked systems, either Phase I or Phase II, as well as conventional (non-trunked) systems.

For P25 CAI, see this Wiki page:

So P25 is a digital transmission, but there are also P25 trunked systems?

Okay. And just one more thing I'm trying to figure out is that the Florida Highway Patrol uses EDACS, and their radios sound identical to the ones used by the Pleasantville Police Department in New Jersey. But when someone asked about Pleasantville and I looked it up in the database, it said that they use Project 25 Phase II. But one thing that they have in common with FHP is they both use Harris instead of Motorola. So is it the different manufacturer that makes it sound different than most other systems or is it the trunking protocol (P25 / EDACS)?

The current SLERS system is EDACS ProVoice with ESK, all FHP is encrypted. Harris is replacing the legacy EDACS ProVoice with VIDA which is their P25 system.

EDACS ProVoice is NOT P25 CAI compliant, but does use IMBE for vocoding.
Harris VIDA is P25 compliant.

So when they switch to P25 will it work the same way Ohio MARCS-IP does or will it still have somewhat garbled audio and a chirp when they key their mics because of it being made by Harris instead of the three quick beeps like most use?
