P25?

Could someone explain to me what P25 is vs UHF. If I program my radio to a P25 frequency at 453.4625 will I be able to hear it? Do you need a special radio?

UHF refers to a portion of the spectrum. P25 is information (voice, data) which is carried over those UHF frequencies.

You need a P25 capable radio to hear traffic on a P25 channl or system.

P25 is shorthand for APCO Project 25. In keeping it simple, P25 is a modulation method, like AM or FM.

UHF defines a frequency range, like VHF, SHF, VLF, etc...
