Ive been messing with the idea of getting into some digital modes. Unfortunately, I only have VHF UHF to play with. I have no interest in upgrading my license for HF. I hate HF! I am interested in VHF UHF digital messaging and the like. Its something I never got into because I am not very computer literate when it comes to programming and and radio interfacing. I barely understand APRS and can only figure it out through APRSdroid. So, I decide, like anything in Ham Radio, to do some monitoring to see if its even worth selling organs and limbs to get into it. I have something on 145.01 near me (winlink?) and of course 144.39 that has a real strong signal with many other hams home stations with lower signals. So I monitored 145.01 for awhile and I got the following. My question is, what is this gibberish I see here? Is there some sort of codes hidden in that that only a computer can decode or is my computer screwing up on me? I am running an SDR dongle going through VB cable and being decoded by AFSK1200. I really do not want to invest in this stuff if it isn't worth it. So I need to know that this is more than just some beaconing stations before I think of investing. It seems like it can be pretty cool to use. Ham radio doesn't get a lot of use above 10 meters in my area so it may not be worth wasting the money. Still checking things out and being hopeful.

I found W1EMA on the Winlink RMS List at Live System Information by filtering for packet stations.

You can get on packet using a sound card and a sound card packet engine such as AGWPE or UZ7HO.
