As of this writing (20aug2012 at 1525hrs) the Pass Fire has consumed 5,700 acres. It started 18 aug 2012 by lightening in SRA, and has moved to USFS territory (Mendocino Nat'l Forest...

The location is Ham Pass, just north of Mendocino Pass Lat-39.8870981 Long 123.0894548

The fire has been making some pretty fast runs uphill, and Division Charlie is the most critcal zone right now...

Air Attack had to wait until late morning today for a pronounced inversion layer to change...

VLAT's ordered up

Just before 12 noon today, the Pass Fire Air Boss ordered up two VLAT's (Very Large Air Tankers)...I don't know where these are located...one of them *might* be a DC10...

Also ordered up are four S2 tankers from Ukiah...

The only VLAT's available currently are both DC-10's operated by 10 Tanker (10 Tanker Air Carrier). You may hear them as Tanker 910 and Tanker 911. They fly out of McClellan for Northern California incidents.

The Evergreen 747 VLAT was converted back to cargo, I believe.
