This is a cellular phone technology question. I didn't see a cell section but they are radios too but if an admin wants to move or delete no problem but I am curious if they are going to phase out PCS 1900 systems or upgrade them to LTE or keep PCS as part of LTE?

Band 2 is already in wide use by most U.S. carriers for LTE. What PCS systems are you referring to, specifically?

T MOBILE. I was concerned that they are keeping 1900 PCS as it is (data/voice) and trying say it as LTE like Verizon (Voice ONLY)? Thanks for the response. Pass 2G off as LTE or somethin'. Charge more $.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here, but Band 2 (1900 MHz) is widely used by T-Mobile and others for bona fide 4G LTE, not "2G". A Google search reveals all of this and more.

1900MHz is just a frequency band. It can be 2G, 3G, 4G or even 5G. Whether or not a carrier is going to phase out their existing services on 1900MHz is really up to the carrier and unless you have inside knowledge or a crystal ball, who knows.

As far as trying to pass off 2G as LTE, I'm not really sure how you would do that without involving the phone manufacturers to change what they show on your phone's display.

I ain't being weird or anything but why don't we have a smartphone/lte section? They are radios too but I guess there is the chance that someone would ask "HOW CAN I LISTEN TO VERIZON" or someone posting ENODEB information, someone else will jump to the conclusion that they are trying to listen in or something....I have an LTE textbook and looked at a few pages a bit at a time. :geek:

That spectrum is worth BILLIONS of dollars. They are not going to give it up. It'll get rejiggered into LTE service. The carriers paid a lot of money for that slice of spectrum and they'll never turn their backs on it. It's way to valuable.

T-Mobile is absolutely shutting down 2G (which they deloyed on PCS band 2) so they can repurpose the spectrum for LTE/5G exclusively. Sorry, 2004 called and wants your RAZR back. Time to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. AT&T kicked 2G to the curb years ago, and VZW will be killing off CDMA/EVDO as well. None of the spectrum they have is being abandoned, just repurposed. Time to get rid of the ancient technology that's choking bandwidth so grandma can keep her flip phone.

THIS is what I was wondering thanks MTS2000DES.
Admins can we make a Cellular section? Asking for friends with inquiring minds who want to know.

Not going to happen. If you want to discuss cellular phones and technology, I suggest you visit the Howard Forums.

First of all, cellular has nothing to do with scanning so it's not on topic for any of our regular forums.

When you get enough time and posts on the site, you'll find we have an Off-topic Wireless forum where things like this can be discussed.

As someone else has said, Howard forums are probably the best place for discussion like this.

Don't have any idea what you are talking about? Look at that again since you are so interested in my posts.
Yeah, nice try at the quick edit, but we both quoted your original post before you edited it. Word of advice to the newbie...don't be a troll.

Not sure what you mean by this. Let bygones be bygones I always say. Phones really do drive folks crazy.
