Im new to the area listening to Phoenix fire dispatch (channel 1). I keep hearing the dispatcher say something like "KDEK-8". I know they give out which tac channel to use, in tempe AN-7 for example, but I hear them clearly say "AN-7" and then the "KDEK 8". Can anyone shed some light on the situation?

“K Deck” refers to channels K1 to K16. Phoenix Fire “K Deck” channels K1-K15 are on the RWC (Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC) Trunking System, Phoenix, Arizona - Scanner Frequencies).

You will hear the term “deck” to describe a radio channel zone. A lot of Phoenix area agencies define radio zones with a letter and then channels within the zone as a channel number. You will often hear Phoenix PD refer to “A Deck”, “B Deck”, or “C Deck” Channels.

“AN” Channels are VHF channels. “AN” is a relatively new channel numbering scheme by Phoenix Fire to refer to VHF Narrowbanded channels. “AN” channels are conventional and are on the Maricopa County page under Phoenix, City of (Maricopa County, Arizona (AZ) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference).
