• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I was parked at the Cherry Hill Mall lot searching the Federal bands. Got a hit on 168.3875.

It was very short; just rattled off 2 10-codes. Thought it was a police dispatch frequency. Monitored the frequency for quite some time and it was silent. Eventually, heard a short data burst.

When I got home, I looked it up in the FCC database for PA/NJ. No listing.

So, I assume it's Federal. Anyone have any info on this freq?

Sat. 1/16 - update:

No voice traffic. Only brief (what sounds like) open carriers of about a second in duration, and some data bursts (sounds like a pager).

Scanner is set for tone search, but not showing any. I believe (correct me) that data/pager-like transmissions don't use tones.
