I recently put the Philly PD freqs in my 250D and It seems to be working, kinda. The problem is that it will only catch the first couple of words it seems somebody is saying then cut off or get distorted. I haven't heard a solid sentence yet. Is this normal?

Thanks

Your general location will help answer this question.

Where I live in the Norristown area of Montco, I get a very weak signal from the Philly system (except for a few "sweet spots" in the house). If I get any audio, it will behave like what you're describing for the most part outside of the sweet spots.

The signal for Philly's system does not travel very far outside the city. The system is designed to concentrate the signal inside the city.

Thanks for the reply,
I am in Center City. It could be well insulated walls. I will mess around with antenna location more and see if it helps.

Signal too strong?

Believe it or not, it may actually be that your signal is too strong. That is a common phenomenon with digital transmissions. Does the BC250D have a signal attenuator? This will weaken the signal just enough so that it will come in clearer. If not, you may want to try putting a weaker antenna on. If you are right next to a communications tower you may want to leave the antenna off altogether!!

Do you have your DSP quality set to 833 or so? Try removing the antenna and see if that helps.

Dave

I don't think the 250D unit has a DSP setting. I have tried all combinations of suggestions and it seems to make no difference, antenna on/off, attenuator on/off. The radio works just fine when I am tune to Bucks county. I know they aer different systems. Maybe I need to program something differently? I am running out of ideas :(

Sure does, read the manual.....

While scanning press trunk than hold down 9 until you get the sound quality screen. using the data wheel adjust the low # to 833. Hit enter then resume. Sometimes 883 works a little better for me but I'm rx'ing from Delaware.

Note this affects all P25 trunking systems in your radio.

Let us know how it goes and we'll work from there. I might suggest setting the freq's mode to FM rather than NFM too....
