Was on the interstate searching for new business frequencies and I heard what sounded like a phone patch being used on 461.025 MHz (NFM). Are telephone “patch -thrus” still being used on business channels? Reminded me of the old airline phones.

Phone patches are definitely used in business bands. In my workplace, the maintenance department has one.

A number of the farmers and ranchers here in Colorado still have phone patches on their systems because cell phone coverage is pretty spotty in the mountains.

Several taxi companies in my hometown used them so drivers could self-dispatch.

Here in LA, the security departments for Eagle Rock Plaza and Occidental College both use phone patches. It's a nice throwback to listen.

The mall in my area still uses it during off hours to allow the security rent a cops to answer the phone. Security is on site 24 hours and a few bars and restaurants stay open later than the retail stores.

In deep Southeast Texas many of the ranchers still use the ranch radiophone system I set up four decades ago when I owned a GE Service Station (South Texas Radio Service). They are all too far away from any landline service, and even to this day cellular service just doesn't exist outside of major towns and along major highways (of which there aren't that many). The subscribers were overjoyed when I finally did away with the operator assistance and automated the system. :)

They could optionally equip their vehicles with mobile units for unit-to-unit contact, as well as the phone service. Eventually King Ranch contracted with my company to install a five channel trunked system for their extensive ranch, with a tower a few miles south of Kingsville and another just south of the Armstrong Ranch to extend coverage to their extended ranch holdings. It too offered both dispatch radio and phone service.

I think the local EMS agency should because there have been times when there is an MCI and the radio just isn’t good enough but cell coverage is working.
