Thank you for sharing. Used to be an authorized user on the UFO constellation. Now, I just "monitor" every once in a while.
maybe you can tell us how the voice quality was? really bad digital compression or very understandable?
I have read a pdf on the web showing the trouble shooting procedures for crypto link establishment for FLTSATCOM UFO. it looked somewhat interesting.

The last time, I was listening to "pirates" in the clear, very understandable, but in Portuguese. Online sites are full of audio from the UHF UFO satcom constellation. Encrypted links require work, and many people are lazy or in a rush.

ok thanks. i was asking about your personal experience with comms in the past on FLTSATCOM or UFO. I am listening to the Russians right now on UFO over the Indian ocean. it is analog NFM. right now they are sober. but it is early. :)

Ah, guess I did not understand what was said earlier.....I can be a bit "dense" at times. I have listened to pirates on UHF Follow On satellites with everything from a Trivec AV-2040/2011 tacsat antenna and a Harris AN/PRC117F/G to the same antennas and an Icom IC-T7H. This site has great information, and then pair it with some Youtube videos on the subject of UFO satellite monitoring. https://www.mattblaze.org/misc/uhf-sats/

Back in the 90's a Canadian ATC, It was Moncton Ctr, had a UHF freq in the 296 MHz range that was being downlinked in the 262 MHz range, that had a good clear signal at my QTH.

268.150 FM with assumed Brazilian pirates speaking Portuguese on satcom about 1800Z just now. Extremely good signal even with a vanilla receive setup.

Is that a 77 in your avatar? Did you happen to drag that thing around at the old Dayton Hamster Vention?
It's a PRC-1077. Did drag it around at the Timonium hamfest. Some of our ham radio club members have a couple of them; we have an informal net Sunday evenings around 1800L on 51.0 MHz. I don't have one; it was one of the ham member's unit.
