PL tone problem - Yaesu FT-2800M

I am new to ham radio, I just got my license a couple weeks ago. I have a FT-2800M installed in my truck, I bought it used about a year ago and had just been using it as a scanner until I got around to getting my ticket.
My problem is this...one of my local repeaters has a PL tone of 114.8. I set the tone exactly how the manual says to and it works great, I can talk on the repeater just fine, but as soon as I change the channel it seems to reset back to the default setting of 100.0, and also turns the tone off. I turn the tone back on and set it back to 114.8 and I can get through just fine until I change the channel again. I assume I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what, I am doing exactly what the manual says to do. (or so I think) Can anyone help?

EDIT: I suppose I should add that I did not get a manual with the radio, but I downloaded it from Yaesu's website. I would assume they are the same.

Page 30 of the manual will tell you how to save the settings for that channel(Freq, PL, and power level).

1.set up the channel with your desired settings.
2.Press and Hold in the D/MR(MW) key for one second. A memory number will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the display. If the number is blinking, there currently is no data stored on that channel: if the channel number is not blinking, there occupied and you won't use it, unless that data is no longer of interest.
3.With 5 seconds, pressing D/MR(MW) key, dial the knob select what desired memory into which wish to store the frequency.
4.Pres D/MR(MW) key again, this time momentarily, to store the displayed data into the selected memory slot. The memory label will disappear, since you still in VFO mode.
5. Repeat for the next channel.

Got it. I knew I had to be missing something. I already had the frequency stored in a memory channel without the PL tone, didnt realize I had to store it again after setting the tone. It works great now. Thanks!
