CONEJOS COUNTY - A pilot flying in southern Colorado is lucky to be alive after his plane crashed in some hills just north of the state line.
Two planes from the Civil Air Patrol and an additional helicopter began searching for the single engine Piper PA-28 at 5:44 p.m. after receiving a mayday call from the pilot near Alamosa.
Rescuers found the plane in a field southwest of Alamosa by following the aircraft's Emergency Locator Transmitter. The pilot, the plane's only occupant, was airlifted with minor injuries.
The pilot's identity was not immediately released.
