• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Recently a couple of folks have put fragments of articles - that is, one section in one article, another section in another article. This kind of fragmentation creates nightmares for maintenance in the long term, and is very messy to boot - please avoid doing this. I have no issues with building stubs for long articles - but as stated in the user's guide, please put some text in there to indicate this is a stub. I have usually combined the fragments into one that can be easily edited and changed.

Also I have noted some links to websites (ScanPEI in this case) in an article. This link already exists in the collaboration page for Prince Edward Island. This is another example of fragmentation, since the website exists in more than one place. Please try to avoid this as well for the same reason- long term maintenance. You can check the collaboration area yourself to see if the link you have already exists there - just hover your mouse over Wiki in the blue toolbar, then select Collaboration from the pulldown. Feel free to add links in the appropriate articles - that's what they are there for.
