Note: Please forgive my ignorance and many questions :)

I'm in Cuyahoga County, west of Cleveland. I would like to be able to listen to North Olmsted Police & Fire radio communications.

I'm only a few miles away from the police station. Does anybody have any suggestions on a cheap scanner to buy from Radio Shack? I have no interest in buying one from eBay, even if it is cheaper. Just looking for general suggestions.

Also, does anybody listen to North Olmsted Police & Fire radio? Is there much chatter? It is encrypted?

I am listening online to "Cuyahoga County Conventional Police and Fire" here on the website and I just heard chatter from North Olmsted Fire. Does that mean their not encrypted?

Any help would be nice.

Thanks,
Jacob

If you hear traffic on-line then it isn't encrypted. If the services you wish to monitor are digital then you will not find a cheap scanner that can pick them up. You might check out Scanner Master (link on RR home page) and read the Wiki here. Then check the data base here to find out what kind of scanner you need and go from there.
