• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good morning!

I just got a new POFUNG UV-6R handheld radio and I cannot figure out how to get the scanner to scan, manually programmed frequencies that I programmed in to channels. I first, in frequency mode, ( top line of scanner) programmed a frequency for on the uv-6r, the frequency is for one of my FRS radios, saved it to channel #6, turned off the POFUNG and turned it back on. Next I went to channel mode and saw that the channel was there. Then I turn on my FRS radio and could transmit and receive between both radios. I then, in channel mode, set the POFUNG to scan. It appeared to only be scanning channel 127 & 0 (which I did not even touch).
When I pressed the transmit button on the FRS radio, the POFUNG did not pick up the signal or recognize that I was transmitting from the FRS.
I am trying to set up about 90+ channels with different frequencies and have the POFUNG scan them all for signals and or transmissions.

What am I missing here? I read some more of the documentation on here and the manuals supplied through various links but I still can seem to set up even 2 channels that will scan with this radio?

Thanks in advance!
Thanks

. Those are not legal for Frs in the U.S. to begin with. Second of all they require that the user has at least a Amateur radio license to use. 73, n9zas

Wrong. Anyone can RECEIVE, and listen to, any station within its range.
True Dick, but he stated " and or transmitting"which means a license would be needed. 73, n9zas

Thanks Anyway

Well, thanks for the info! I just got this HT, as an entry level... to the "Ham" world....I downloaded the manual to get the "entry" level license.... I really just wanted to " monitor" local frequencies, in the area, and wanted to know how to to that, for this device... I found a site that had tons of frequencies to listen too and wanted to see if this would be interesting or not.... I did not realize I was breaking laws and/ or treading on/in someone's area....

Thanks for the info and the support!

You are not doing anything wrong by monitoring. About the only "illegal" monitoring would be copying encrypted transmissions, but that is nearly impossible for a regular hobbyist.
Also, please post the link to download the manual.
