Hi!

I ported original DOS Motorola trunker to WIN32 and soundcard support.
Also added some new features. Program run in console window, have same interface and same configuration files.

You can download it here:
http://www.r00t.cz/radio/ (under Software/Motorola Trunker32)

Any bug reports are welcome :)

Thanks,
r00t

Thanks r00t!

BTW, if you check the trunker list on yahoo, you will find a version of trunker that runs in a console window. That version is limited to Windows 2K and XP because of the WDM driver used to support a slicer input.

(Is it just me or are there hybrid versions of trunker/etrunk/xyztrunk popping up all over?)

Regards,
Rick

But my version is using soundcard, no interface is required. Thus no problems with drivers. Soundcard is much better (advanced filtering is used, very good signal/noise ratio).

Hey Root! Seems to work very well, nicer than the slicer/XP combo. It's fast too.

One thing, it doesn't seem to support my Smartzone system like trunkers of the past (separate site entities, etc)..

Yes, I noticed. I've gotten requests for adding sound input support to the DOS version of trunker but trying to support more than a few (or one) sound card interfaces (like basic SB16 functionality) is a pain.

Could you elaborate on the advanced filtering (like impact on CPU and type of filter used) ?

Which compiler are you using for Windows?

How did you handle mapping the 8 bit color CGA style DOS text to the Win32 console API?

Is the resulting source code cross-platform or Windows only?

Are you publishing source code?

Do you think you could put together an EDACS version?

Hi!

1) CPU usage is very low (i get about 5% on P4@2.4 and 15% on Celeron 433) If you have other CPU usage experience, let me know (but filters are very optimized now, but maybe I can simple them if needed)

2) I am using VisualStudio 6 + my own console window routines (it's not commandline)

3) Code is windows only (due to console routines, sound input and serial IO). It's better to start again if you want trunker for linux...

4) I am not publishing source code (maybe I will change that in future)

5) Yes, I will publish EDACS version too, but there is problem: I can't test it, because there is no EDACS systems in my country. Maybe some good WAV files can help :)

to bcradio:
Please record some smartzone data to WAV and send it to me (or upload to forum), so I can test it.

to anybody:
I know that there is DOS Trunker 3.8.3 beta6 but no sources of it. My trunker is currently same as 3.8.3b1, so if you have source code changes to higher versions, please send it to me... meybe this can solve smartzone problem too...

I downloaded the program. I am having trouble getting it started. My system will not open it. It asks what program do I want to use to open mtrunker32.rar with. What program do I use or is there a program that I can download?

mtrunker32.rar is packed with RAR compressor, you need WinRAR or WinACE or some archiver to unpack it.

I too downloaded this as well to see if it will work. Will this work any type of scanner? Seeing as it's run by the soundcard instead.

Also, I've got it working finally, so what do I have to do to try an get the system's that are around here now to be tracked?

I can send you a .wav file of the types of systems that I'd like to track.

One of them is the Provincial Gov't Radio System for the Province of Ontario which is http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2560 Motorola Type II Smartzone

Hi!

1) Updated to 3.8.3b1.build1 - Fixed Win98 & WinMe display problems
2) OntarioScannerNut, please record some usable wav with problematic events (not working features). Also please include description what it should do. You can pack it and upload to forum or send it to my mail (link at bottom of my page)

R00t,

First off, thanks for your efforts. I'm running the software and it's working superbly in Windows 2000 Professional SP4 using an AMD Athlon Classic 700 with 512 MB RAM. I am using a Creative Labs Soundblaster USB External Sound Device and seeing a perfect 100% decode rate on Massachusetts State Police Zone 04. CPU usage is averaging about 16%. Nice.

I copied my DOS trunker files over to this version. However, instead of using the .txt files for the particular MSP zones, instead your program seems to want to use 0d14sys.txt to display frequencies and determine plan type, which was set to 0. The DOS version saw that this was a smartzone and created a separate file, 0D14C4.txt in which the plan and frequencies were included. Your version is ignoring this file and the fact that this is a smartzone in a statewide system. Additionally, and very likely due to the above, there is no indication that your program realizes it's listening to a zone as there is an omission of the "< 4>" usually displayed to the right of "Type II 97.3 Hz" in the upper left corner of the program. Do I need to let the system "rebuild" itself or is this something that's just not built into your version yet.

Other than that "issue", this is running superbly, driving a Radio Shack PRO-2042/OS-535 as the trunk following scanner. I had it up and running less than 30 seconds after downloading/decompressing. Nicely done!

Hi!

Please, if you are comparing my prog with old DOS trunker, say what DOS version you are using. My version is base on 3.8.3b1, but current is 3.8.3b6. Reason is that there is NO source code changes from b1 to b6.

Thanks,
r00t

Let me know if you still need a WAV/MP3 of an EDACS CC. I've got plenty of that here in Worcester, MA.

Hi!

to scancapecod:
Please record control channel into uncompressed wav and send it to me (or upload to forum).

to djmt99:
Yes, I still need EDACS samples. Please send some of it to me (uncomressed wav, can be downsampled to 22050 for smaller file).

My email address is jakubhruska@seznam.cz

OK, I'll do that sometime today and e-mail it to you. Another issue I'm noticing with your version: I started it on MA State Police Zone 03 "from scratch" (no pre-existing system files). It displayed the first three frequencies as normal (855.6625, 858.3625, and 859.8375 the control channel) but when it found the next two frequencies they were displayed in hex. 0d14Sys.txt file shows PLAN=0.

Stand by for the .wav file. Thanks.
