To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Nice radio. I have one as well. Good luck with the search as a quick internet search shows they seem to made of "unobtainimum". Now that I realize that I am going to keep an eye open locally for them just in case.
Good luck.

I have made my own in the past using two female molex pins on the end of a cut off extension cord. Then I shrink wrapped the molex pins to avoid a short and slip them over the pins in the radios jack.

Important: The two male pins on the radio that are further apart are for the 120VAC feed to the internal power supply (see the photo in this eBay add and zoom in on the power plug) You will see that its labeled 7A 125V. The other (4) pins are for using a DC 12V supply and are polarity dependent.

If you want to be sure, you can trace the leads to the power plug jack and confirm the pins go to the power supply transformer for 120 VAC or bypass it for 12VDC usage. Again observe and confirm proper polarity when using a 12VDC supply. The AC supply polarity doesn't matter.

I found a generic 2 prong plug. The radio lights normal but no talk or receive. Is it voltage specific or is there an internal problem? All the lights clock meters light but no meter action or hiss from speaker. The modulation light comes on when I speak but meters don't move and do not hear any sound. The cord I'm using should be ok if everything lights, right?

PA ok. Used 3 different mics from TRS-490 and TRS-55. Wonder if internal fuse is blown and tx/rx disabled but circuit allows lights to power up. No external fuse. Will need to pop the hood to find it. Thanks for all the help.

I found a generic 2 prong plug.

That's what the eBay listing was trying to sell folks, not the actual factory plug, haha. His add was a bit misleading based on the photos unless you read the entire description.

Sounds like as you said, the internal fuse to the 12 VDC output on the power supply may be blown if you get lights and the 120 VAC clock works. The Modulation light coming on when you key the mic and nothing else working gives me pause though.

There is a bridge rectification circuit on the at power supply board with 4 diodes that may have gone south not allowing 12VDC to reach the main board. There is usually a potentiometer on the power supply board that may need to be rotated a few times to get the DC voltage back up. If the filter capacitor on the power supply board has dried up (common) and shorted it may be preventing 12VDC output also.

If you have a 12VDC supply you could try and power the radio on the other pins of the power jack. The AC powered mechanical clock would not work, but maybe the radio would come back to life.

Power cord

Found a service manual in SAMS photo fact #205 page 77&78. Tried to copy and paste for you, but no luck!

Wil try again when I have time.
