• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I wanted to set up one of my CB radio's in my house with all my other scanners but have a power problem. The CB is the uniden pro 510xl and it has a hard wire "power wire" with fuse. How can I wire it so it works off a house outlet?

you can go get a power converter from rat shack or any electronucs place. you can plug those wires into the convverter and plug th converter and as long as you dont cross the wires you will have a working cb

I am not a CBer, but I think most of them operate off of 12 volts DC (same voltage as most cars). If yours does, you are going to need a 12 volt DC power supply capable of 3 to 5 Amps. You will not want to use a 12 volt DC walwart as most of these do not have the current capability needed for when you transmit. You will have to be sure you have the red wire connected to the Positive post of the power supply and the black wire to the Negative post. Since your CB radio will be close to your scanners, it will probably cause interference to the scanners when you transmit.

I hope this helps.

Solder the Red wire on the CB to the Red wire on your Power Supply, or whatever. Solder the black wire, to the black wire again..

Most power supplies have "jacks" on them. There will be a red and black "knob". You unscrew the knob, and most of the time there is a small hole in the stud you can poke your CB wires in, and re-tighten.

You might have to strip off about 2" of insulation off the CB wires, and actually wrap the wire around the studs on the power supply. They're color coded, and make SURE you hook red to red and black to black.. I've toasted a couple radio's having the same color power and ground wires.. Not pretty.. If you're still unsure, meter it.

After finding a 12 volt DC do I just solder the wires together? I am new to this stuff.

A 12 volt power supply will have some sort of terminal that you attach the wire to. No solder needed. Some have terninals that looks like what you find on your stereo for speaker wires. Some have a terminal stud that screw in to hold the wires. Just put the correct wire to the correct terminal and away you go.

As someone else mentioned... DO NOT USE a wal-wart style power adapter. The won't allow the amperage that you need to power a CB. A simple 12volt 7amp power supply can be bought from Radio Shack for around $50. Though radio shack has a nice 15amp supply that would better for $79 http://tinyurl.com/yy6fqv

Max...

Ask the pimple faced kid at Radio Shack for help.

Be careful, the less pimples, the less he probably knows.

HEY! I happen to be acne free and am the most knowledgeable person you could find at a radio shack store (wow I am full of myself)

But yes a radio shack power supply 13.8 volts 3 amps should cost you about 42 dollars or try ebay much cheaper. Fairly easy.

power supply

If you have a old computer laying around try the power supply out of that there is 12 VDC coming out of it along with 5VDC so check what wires run 12V I have used one to run a galaxy77 HML radio with good results. or just go down to rat shack. just an option to think about
