• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How do you update the radio reference data that is in the PPS for offline use? I obviously did it when I installed it but information has changed in the last few years but I cannot figure out how to. Thanks in advance for the help. Feel free to move this post if already answered.

When you installed PPS, the offline data came with it. From a bit of poking around, it looks like the "Get Data" button in the "Import Radio Reference" window will update the offline data for the selected system, so I suppose you'd have to update each system of interest individually. Updating all systems from the RR DB would probably be wasteful anyway.

This did not work for me as non-Premium account. I wonder if works differently for RR's Premium Subscribers? I recently had this same question. Do not have Premium, so can't login. Tried "Get Data", didn't receive new info. As example, Connecticut's CLMRN Trunked system shows Troop G as RFSS 1(1) Site:21(015) while the live db here shows 3(3) and 013(D)

The software keeps the Offline files in this folder C:\Users\All Users\Unication\RadioReference
I tried uninstall >> wiping leftover Application Data and System files >> re-install. The files re-appear, but they're dated Aug 6, 2020. The whole offline folder is 65 MB of .csv files, I wonder if they're packaged with the installer and dated to around last time PPS was updated. Either way, I can't get them to update.

yes, this is the purpose (or one of the purposes) of being a premium subscriber.

Yes; that's what I meant by "When you installed PPS, the offline data came with it.".

PPS doesn't get you free access to RR database downloads, so yeah, you need membership. I'm not sure what sort of arrangement was made for Unication to distribute a snapshot of the database with PPS....

Agree. What I was trying to clarify for others, to save them the work investigating, is that Offline data will be as old as the software's release. In other words, the PPS installer does not grab a fresh RR db upon install. And the instructions provided above do not update the Offline files for non-Premium members. The PPS window will show "Network: Online" but all the data one is perusing is from the Offline files folder..even when one clicks "Get Data".

Just hope to save any non-Premium members the frustration and investigation. In my view, the packaged Offline files have a declining value as they age. As age is tied to the software's last release and not its last install, effectively RR (and Unication) are tying customer happiness w/ the offline files to an expectation they'll push frequent-enough software updates. I think a big value-add of these scanners is ability to program straight from RR's database, and outdated files mean new users could program a scanner and get frustrated it's not "working" - blaming either RR for bad data or Unication for non-functioning hardware...when the problem is just outdated packaged RR data.

I think we're all on the same side here. It makes sense only Premium users can login, and can thus automatically fetch new files. It's just thoroughly strange to me Unication doesn't make the age of included RR data clearer and have some sort of auto-RR-db-fetch upon install. It could even be an archived version from 1-3 months ago (to keep Premium higher tier offering), but that way the accuracy of Offline data isn't tied to developers pushing a new PPS release.
