• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I don't know how to start this topic. Please move if this i under the wrong thread mods.

My radio sends out a tone when i press the PTT and after depressing it, what does it called? PTT tone? How and where i can change that setting or codes using the CPS? I'm no radio operator that's why i don't know how to go about it. But i just wanted to change the tone that my colleague put in there.

Is there a CPG here that i can use or any codes that you can give out to change the tone on my radio? All i know on the CPS is how to change the TX and RX and they are giving those frequencies to me whenever we update our Fire Rescue repeater channel.

I guess i need to study more on how to program using the CPS. Is there a downloadable file where i can get a good understanding on how to program my radio using the CPS?

Thanks for your help.

The tone is set up using the MDC program in the CPS. You can set it up to do the tone before (pre) or after (post) or both under the MDC settings. You can set up a user id number that is sent to other users that use the program and you can see there id number if your radio has a screen. Im not sure about being able to change the sound of the tone. In the CPS on the left hand side of the screen there will be a list of options to choose from. Find the one that says signalling.....MDC..... In this box you should be able to change settings to the MDC.

I just looked at what kind of radio you have....... The GP series Motorola's will not do MDC because it is an over sea's radio and is not supported. It does how ever have something similar but Im not sure how to set it up on those. If thats something you want then you need to upgrade to an HT750.
