If you have a Close Call equipped scanner and are near a school or their yard you should be able to grab them. There is a small chance they are DMR but no pain no gain. Also school buses tend to be at the top of the VHF band 167-173 areas.

Thank you. So just to confirm, if I was to drive by their base I would likely pick it up.
I do have school bus companies that are on a NXDN trunk system. It's Voyago First Student, but i am just looking to see if I can put in the other company.
I do know that the Premier buses have a very small antenna on their buses, not as big as the other company's. I did a check on TAFL and found freq for Premier but it was for CARLETON PLACE. I didn't find for my area of Ottawa
Basically, I just would want to have as many companies as I can.

Frequency hunting is always a challenge but the rewards in satisfaction are worth it.

If there is an antenna at the dispatch office then you should be able to capture it very easily in the mornings or afternoon school bus times.

The more you know about a system before going in makes the hunt a lot easier. First identify the "band" that is in use by looking at the antenna on a vehicle. An approx. 16 inch whip is going to be VHF, an approx. 6 inch whip will be UHF, an approx 10 in whip with a curly part will be 800 MHz or even a 20 in whip with a coil in the middle will be UHF.

The same goes for a 10 in strait whip with a coil at the bottom. Another big help will be knowing the model of radio in the bus. This will tell you if its analog or possibly digital. A Kenwood may indicate NXDN. Be sure to check the local OnQ and FleetConnect sites as well as any other local trunked sites especially the UHF ones.

I checked the website TAFL for Premier bus Lines. I saw on the info it is LM_CAN_VHF_BLOCK_H_DUPLEX_30K LMR-ANALOG

So, I am thinking that would be considered a Conventional system. The systems I have available are ( DMR P25 NXDN Conventional EDCS LT )

I will attach the link for for more info

Speaking of school buses, I use to hear Valley Bus Lines from Kemptville now and then out my way on 461.6125, but have not heard them in a year or two. A few weeks back I was in Kemptville and see they are still there. I'm guessing they have something new? Anyone hear them?
