• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I just found out that the President's visit to Columbus tomorrow will be across the street from my place of employment and will require the shutting down of Cleveland Avenue for several hours in the I-670 area. I know the Secret Service is encrypted, but can anyone think of anywhere else that I can get information besides the CPD event channels?

LEERN is usually active by local units closing exits and streets. Feds have the capability to also use it.
Other than that it will be the USSS channels.

If you have a digital scanner, check the OSP District 6 event talkgroups and maybe the ECOMMs. CSCC Police will probably have to be involved, too, since it's so close to them. Other than that, maybe the Sheriff's Office event talkgroups too? (In 2008 when motorcades were criss-crossing the state, the escorts were primarily on OSP district event talkgroups, but I don't know if they're even involved since this trip is all in the city.)

Edit: One of the airport talkgroups will probably have some stuff too.

There will also probably be activity from CPD on their Event talkgroups.

If it is used in your area, keep an ear on ICALL/ITAC channels. Never know what will pop up on them. They were used here.
