• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I own the pro-106 scanner. I only listen to the county I live in which is Ionia. And on the 800 band I don't know y but it garlbes sometimes, dispatch and the cops call it "going digital" I watched a You Tube vid and it said that it's called encreption. So what is it called? I did have a clerk at Radio Shack trunk them for me but I don't like it because the T flashed. I have them all stored as CONV and I have the search turned on and displaying on the unit (the one it shows either DCS, CCTS, DEC, P25, ect.) I don't really know how to "trunk" the 800 freq.'s either.

If it sounded garbled to you and the person they were talking to says "you went digital" or something to that effect then they probably heard the same thing as you did and it is due to a weak signal from the person trying to talk. If you just hear garbled noise all the time it may be encryption (check the database and see if that talkgroup is marked as using encryption)
