Hey guys

I have a few frequencies that i'm trying to put in that won't go. For example - Montreal air traffic - 123.9200. My scanner rounds it to 123.91666

Why does it change it? And actually I should point out that I'm not programming directly in the scanner, I'm using WIN500. Can anyone shine some light on the subject for me?

Thanks

There are step sizes within the frequency ranges because the scanner's frequency control is combining finite increments to get as close as it can to the freq you want. ("digital frequency synthesis" if you want to google more about it)

I think Win500 might let you change step sizes but for this frequency there is no good reason to mess with it. That is an AM, air band frequency and you couldn't hear the difference between them if you could program each one and listen to them side by side.

Try turning on the flex step option, and then enter that frequency.

PGM + FUNC + F3, Scroll down to Flex Step and set it "on".

That should do it.

No that does nothing at all,but the frequency I just checked and the Database said"No identified information found in the database for: 123.9200" In Quebec

@skydmark1
I listened to 123.91666 for about a hour now and it's dead! Are you sure that is the correct frequency?

No, it was a frequency that somebody had suggested for me to try. I actually have a few more that won't go in (same story) that were suggested. Where can I look these up?

OK,I understand! If you want to be able to see if a frequency is valid? You must join as a

The actual frequency should be 123.925. ATC will routinely eliminate the last digit when telling AC to switch freqs on those "in between" freqs. (those 12.5 khz spaced)

Below is where I got some of the frequencies, it's from a thread I posted a while back in the Air Traffic Forum

Jason-
You are probably in a pretty good location to be able to pick up a lot of Canadian air traffic, as well. Try
132.55, 128.22, 133.22 and 123.92 from the Montreal center. Also, try 120.35 (Burlington RCAG), and
128.05 (St. Albans, Me. RCAG). I've heard a lot of hand-offs to and from Canada on those, as well as
135.7 and 118.82.
Also, you should be able to get some air traffic from/to Logan Apt., and Manchester, on their northern
departure/arrival routes. Try 134.7 (Lebanon RCAG), and 128.32 (Lake George, NY RCAG).

All those ending in x2 should be x25. So 123.92 should be 123.925 and 119.52 should be 119.525. etc

I forgot to mention, similarly if they end in .x7, they should be .x75 i.e 119.775
