Scancat is famous for messing things up (not to mention most RS managers wouldn't understand it anyway); I wouldn't hold my breath as to just how correct that programming is.

Whichever program you buy (and you should include PSREdit300 in that list) it's worth a couple of bucks to buy a premium subscription, with which you can download data from the online database. Alternately you can go to the SC forum and ask for a file, then start playing. Make sure you specify for which package this file should be - they're not interchangeable

best regards..Mike

This is like the old question which is best, Ford vs Chevy or Coke vs Pepsi. One side will swear that theirs is great and the other is crap, but both are good, the issue is which do you like best.

Since scanner software pretty much all has a free 30 day trial period, your best anwer is to try them all and see which one YOU like best and that'll be your answer. The trial software is the same except that once you register it will no longer nag you about registration and often after the 30 day trial period, the software will not let you save the data or upload it to the scanner.

All of the software pretty much does the same things as the others with the difference being the user interface. One interface may be a better fit to how you do things than another. I've never heard of issues having both on the computer at the same time so long as you only run one at a time. You may even get away with having both running (so you can copy from one to paste into the other, if the software allows it) so long as you close one out before trying to interface with the scanner on the other.

i tried the arc software programs but i have and prefer win 97 and win500 for both my pro 163 and my pro 106. like was mentioned you can ask 10 different people the same question and get 10 different answers the best answer for you is going to come from you as to which software you prefer to use. good luck.

I prefer the WIN line of software over the ARC or PSR lines but that is just personal preference. n5ims is right. Download all three and see which one you like the most.

I got the trial for all three going this week, I have the Win95 (free) for my pro95 before there was RR subscriptions to speak of, I just got the 164 programmed by the computer for the 1st time (so now much more organized than hunt and peck by hand for 3years) my preference leans toward the ARC300 out of the ones I downloaded, and I've been happy as a long term BuTel customer with my ARC996T Pro for my Uniden 996T. I'll probably purchase it in early April

Bottom line though, is try them out and choose the one you feel most at ease using.

One vote here for Win97. Has worked flawlessly since day one for me and my 164. That's saying something as, until the first time I used it, I had never even heard a scanner much less programmed one.

+1 on the RR premium subscription too. Very solid info easily applied.

I am so new at scanners and programming and I used the arc300 without effort. I would recommend highly that you let RR manage the downloads though unless you want to spend a weekend entering Freq.

This:
arc300
Win97
psredit300

Not this:
Scancat

I'm using psredit300 simply because it's the last one I had installed to try and rather than uninstall, I just kept it. Also, as mentioned a subscription to RR. Makes programming easy peasy that way.
