Hello,

I have a Pro-197 that I am programming for a friend (by hand ).

I am trying to program this system which includes numerous tower sites.

My question is since the P25 Auto system type only allows 32 frequencies. Should I program each site as its own system or plug in 32 control channels into each system?

Thanks for the information!

I'd just put in the CC's one system. Is the scanner mobile or stationary? How far away are some of the sites? Maybe they are too far to worry about unless the scanner friend is driving around and needs them all?

It will be a mobile scanner used statewide so I need all the cc's
Are you trying to program in AWIN?
Looking at the system, with 70+ sites, all of them with at least two control channels (primary & alternate) listed, some with 3 & 4, you'd obviously need multiple TSYS objects to squeeze in all the possible controls, even using the 32 channel max per TSYS object. Plus, you'll also have to duplicate the TGRP objects in each TSYS. I suspect that you'd end up bumping the maximum objects limit before you got it set up, unless you're using a very small universe of talkgroups. You would have little to no room for anything but the statewide system. If you tried to program each site, with only it's individual control channels, then the talkgroup duplication issue would multiply even further.

Since not all talkgroups are carried on each site, and since, if you're in the southern part of the state, you'd be unlikely to hear towers on the other end of the state unless the atmospheric conditions were absolutely phenomenal. Also, you'd be slowing down the scan process, as the scanner paused, however briefly, on sites that were out of range then moved on to the next.

I'd lean toward splitting the system up into V-folder bite sizes, laid out by geographic or state trooper region, or whatever makes the most sense to you. You could overlap those well enough to cover anything likely to be in range from any given county. Set the multi-site feature to either use the best available control channel, or check all of them, either in turn, or every time the system is scanned.

Thanks, I broke it down into V-Folders. Programmed the entire systems TGID on 1 V-Folder BY HAND!! Then "stored" it onto 6 other V-Folders. Then went back and entered frequencies for each area by troops or groups of troops. So I only had to pgrm the talk groups once.

Thanks for the info!
