As far as I can tell, having bought 3 refurbished R/S scanners, they're usually customer returns or floor demo scanners. I doubt many (if any) are repaired scanners. I would have no problem buying another of these 'refurbished' units in a second.
The more complicated and powerful the scanner, the more likely the end-user will be to give up and return it rather than do the homework to learn how to program their scanner, apparently. The Pro-197/Pro-106 are the most feature-rich and therefor complicated scanners R/S sells;so you do the math.
I hope the refurbished Pro-197 for $299.99 is a good deal.I just ordered one last night. It will be my first digital scanner.I`v been reading all I can find about it.But it still seams to a hard scanner to program. ...

The new generation of scanners are very user friendly despite what some people may say, and I knopw there will be quite a few of these negative people respond to this. When I bought my Pro-106 back 3+ years ago I was programming it in the van right after I took it out of the store. I looked online for the pdf file and got the basics in my head beforehand. And when I bought the Pro-197 after that I brought it home and uploaded a couple files to the scanner using Win500.
And this is a great help for everyone that plans on buying one: Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual
