I DeoxIT the vol knob a bit checked the caps with the brightest flashlight i have dident see any bulging or leaking with my old eyes. If it's on a few hours the vol comes up a bit but i have the knob almost all the way up.. Any one have this problem before ? Thanks

Visual inspection of capacitors does not catch all the faults that are possible. The radio is 35 years old and electrolytic capacitors can dry out with time and lose capacitance. Replacing C220-C224 and C226 will probably restore the volume. C226 might be the most important one to change out.

Did you try cleaning your squelch as well, not saying it will help but ya never know. How about with using headphones is it still low, if so I would use 99% isopropyl alcohol inject it into the little holes on the volume or squelch casing with a syringe, should clean everything up, carbon buildup can be a little bugger. Good luck.

Yes I did the squelch also... I can try the alcohol give it try... I got it on ebay about 4 years ago it lasted a while before it failed.. I believe it's what Pro29b said bad cap..

Definitely sounds like the caps, especially after you mentioned the volume gets a bit louder after it's been on for a while. Sometimes, the caps reform as the radio is in use.

I've had my Pro-2006 since new, 35 years. Still consider it the best scanner ever made, and the best I've ever owned.

Had this very problem with a 2004 and remedied it by replacing the amplifier electrolytics as suggested. As well, the severe crackling on the volume control is partially due to DC leaking through a failing electrolytic into the control. If you find that cleaning does not fully get rid of the crackling or it returns quickly, consider replacing the cap(s) feeding into and out of the control.
