hello i am new to this forum..I just obtained a pro 2036 scanner and need a little help. Unfortunately my knowledge is very limited and I need a kick start to using this scanner. Assuming I know the frequency I want to access how would I go about tuning it in using basic step by step instructions? I did find a site with the manual but still cant get the channel to work?
thx in advance

I assume you followed these steps? If so, make sure you picked an analog frequency?

MANUALLY STORING FREQUENCIES

1. If ENTER LOCK is ON, set it to OFF.
2. If SCAN is displayed or the scanner is scanning, press MANUAL.
3. If the LOCK indicator is on, press LOCK. The scanner beeps softly and
LOCK turns off.
4. Press FREQ/CHAN until the CHAN indicator turns on. The scanner beeps
softly.
5. Turn the rotary tuner until the display shows the channel <!--more-->you want to
program.

YOU look in Radio Reference database for your city or county to tell if it's analog or not. You have to push the "freq or channel" button on the right side next to the knob to make it stay on either one. It will go red/green and you turn the knob to scroll through the channels you entered. Faster than manual of course. **I still have my old manual. I just threw out my old Pro2036. it quit working and the 5yr battery that holds the memory between direct plug-ins was done. I took it apart and it wasn't a replaceable one. It was actually welded or something to a metal post. It's been long out of date here anyway and I could only use it when plugged in all the time for analog only traffic. Beware setting the weather siren from the NOAA channels. THAT THING IS LOUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDD. Want to test it?
Press WX
when it stops on your nearest NOAA channel press HOLD
Press ALERT the scanners shows WX alert and mutes
To hear alarm press PRIORITY down for 3 or more seconds
Plug ears--
To turn it off press HOLD again or Manual. It was a good scanner but things changed from single 800mhz in my town to Trunked right after I got it. I use my Pro96 and WS1080 now.
Here's a manual link http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/15565.htm

What "channel?" remember it's an Analog only scanner, not a digital one. All you'll hear if you punch in a digital 800mhz number is noise and it's not a trunking scanner. Luckily there's still plenty of analog traffic outside cities in the suburbs.

i see....the scanner came with a frequency catalog so im assuming they are analog. for example i am looking up frequency in my hometown and punching in number: police 139.5000 so these are digital? also when leaving on scan mode it will stop at 139.5000 and it will be airport tower. i live in a small town in bc 33,500
thx for your help
