A quick question about the 2052 and connecting to a computer.

With its db9 connector can you use a db9 to usb and connect through a usb port, and will this connction work with all the software out there or is it software dependant ? or will it not work at all.....

Thanks
Bill

It's can be software dependent; some software manufacturers 'approve' certain USB interfaces to work with their applications. Scan Control, for example, does this, but I suspect it would also work with other USB drivers as well. I don't own a PC that requires a USB port for this purpose, but a quick check of the software's Yahoo group or website (sometimes both) will give you this kind of information.

I have an old Prolific USB to Serial cable which is not certified for XP, but I just now hooked it up to try your question. Had to dig out the driver disk and force XP to accept the driver, but now running ScanControl W/O any problems.

My new XP purchased last XMAS did not come with a serial port. I found it much easier to but a serial port card( Ebay $5.00 new) and have serial port capability. Much cheaper and EASIER alternative that buying/installing USB/serial adapter & software.
Did the same thing for my laptop. Bought an ethernet card with a RJ45 that terminates with a serial($15.00 new Ebay).
I run at least 10 scanners and found it easier to go this route than to configure software. Yes USB is suppose to be faster, but when it reaches the serial termination or connector it is back to slow speed again.
