I have a chance to pick this scanner up for $40. Buyer states that the antenna is stuck in the top of the radio input, but that there is another antenna jack in the rear.
Can anyone confirm this?
Thoughts on radio?
Thanks

Yes, it has a rear BNC and a telescoping antenna that threads through a hole in the top cover to a screw on the main board. It sounds like the screw has come loose and is just spinning so the antenna can't be removed. The case is in two halves and removing the top cover should allow this to be fixed easily. The price is good but I would only get if it was local pickup. Shipping it with that antenna sticking out would probably result in damage.

To see the features of the radio grab the manual at http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/2000466_PM_EN.pdf

The radio does indeed have 2 antenna jacks. The first antenna jack is located on the top. The antenna screws into he top of the scanner and is a telescopic antenna that looks very similar to the type you would see on the back of your stereo/boombox.

The other jack is a traditional bnc mount. I have a realistic pro-59 that has the same type of setup. My overall thoughts are that the antenna which is screwed into the top of the reciever is pretty much worthless. The bnc antenna picks up way more even with a stock type telescopic antenna with a bnc mount.

I checked ebay and found 1 that went for i think 160 bucks on there not too long ago so you are definetely getting a good deal on it.

The pro-2053 is rather large compared to most and is designed as a base only. with that said it is a great scanner with good sensativity. 40 buck's = Great Deal :)

In my caprice and bronco, I've used the 2053 as a mobile scanner with good results, the display is nice and big at night :D I switched to the 2055 because of the metal case (RF) being better suited for mobile use as well as the better features of the 97/2055 line.

Looks like I can program with WIN93.
What programming cable is needed?
Is it the same as the PRO-96/97 uses?

Picked up the radio today. Took it apart and see where the antenna screws into a screw. However, that screw is not moving and it seems to be soldered in place.
Very strange that if the screws were stripped you would think that the antenna wouldn't turn or it would pull right out.
In case I can't get the antenna out. Does anyone know how the radio bypasses the top of radio antenna, so that I can use a better antenna using the rear BNC jack?
The manual states that to use the rear antenna connection, you need to remove the top supplied antenna.
Thanks

I've never seen the inside of this model, but is there a wire going to the antenna screw? If so, just snip the wire. The radio can't use the top-of-set antenna if it's not connected.

Of course then you're stuck using the BNC jack all the time, but that's probably not much of a bummer!

The antenna may have a threaded insert that is spinning inside the base of the antenna. Maybe grabbing it with pliers and squeezing while you turn the antenna will allow it to be removed. Hopefully the screw in the radio isn't stripped.

Its probably the crimp in the antenna that holds the female thread. Both the BNC and the screw in end up in the same place. Its an open circuit jack, not a closed one like what is used on audio.

Meaning, if I use the BNC on the back, it will use that input even if the screw in antenna is still attached?
