Pro 2053 BNC connection / poor reception

I've seen this before but I am throwing it out there. My Pro 2053 receives as expected with the stock telescoping antenna. However when I attach one of my external antennas to the BNC connections I can't get squat. I use the NOAA stations as the testing frequencies. My Uniden picks up extremely better so I know I don't have a short or antenna issue. It seems like Radio Shack scanners do this. Has anyone had something similar to this?

Are you sure the outside antenna, cable, and connectors are OK?

Try setting the attenuator on the VHF Hi channels to determine if it being caused by signal overload.
