---Hi, all. Just got in my 2055 today, and I love it! However, when I go to input text when programming the channels, I cannot find a way to put the "S" character in. I have no trouble creating alpha tags to the channels, it's just that I cannot find a way to input the letter "S". Maybe someone out there can help me that has had this same problem. So far, I have not had any need for the letter "Z", but the same problem could occur...I am able to type in "P", "Q", or "R", but no "S". Thanks for your time.

74 for S

You'll enjoy the 2055. I'm using the handheld "twin" PRO-97 here.

Since the letter S is the 4th one on the key just type 7 and 4. If you ever want to use a lowercase letter just press the "F" (function) key between the first and second numbers for the letter.

7 4 = S
7 F 4 = s

Have fun with your new radio!

Thanks...it worked!

--Thanks, Dan. It worked. I swear, I looked all in that manual but saw no mention of using the "4" button. Maybe I just overlooked it. I pressed the "Trunk" button, which as you know, is directly to the right of the "3", thinking that the "Trunk" button might work for the "S" (it didn't, haha). So far, I am impressed with the sensitivity of this scanner on VHF-LO, Air band, and VHF-HI. Even UHF (only above 450 i've tried) works great. I went ahead and ordered the programming cable (ordered it/received it at the same time), but am waiting on my Serial Port to USB converter, so, for now, I am having to input a whole bunch of frequencies and alpha tags by hand (no biggie, though, just time-consuming).

--I have not tried out the 225-400 Mhz mil-air range yet. Do you happen to know of any up-to-date lists of frequencies on the web? My "Police Call" books are several years out of date, and I have misplaced them anyway, haha. I'll look tomorrow on the internet as well. Thanks again.

Mil-air performance and database link

Adam,

It's easy to overlook things in the manual. One trick I use is to always keep an Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the manual on the computer here at home and at work for quick reference. It's on the Radio Shack web site.

Everything I've read says that your PRO-2055 and my handheld "twin" PRO-97 have identical specs. I've given mine a good workout on all bands except VHF-LO and been very pleased. I've done a lot of work in the 225-400 mil-air range and I think you'll be very happy with the results you get.

Web databases? For starters try the "Database" link at the top of the page here on Radio Reference. If you're talking about 225-400 then start with some of the links on the WIKI page here:

You mentioned a USB to serial adapter. I'm using one made by Belkin that works perfectly with my PRO-97, PRO-83, and several Garmin GPS models I've tried.

Thanks again, Dan, for your help. I just got in my USB to Serial converter today (the 18th). I got it from "Cables to Go", and the model is a "Port Authority 2". I plugged it in, and it works like a charm. I am using the "Win97" software...easy to use. Thanks for the link as well. I think that Radio Reference is the best scanner/frequency site out there...glad I found this site. Later on today, I will input a whole bunch of civil and mil-air frequencies...should be fun.
