• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Hey All

I am wondering if you can take the Board ( master Board) from a Pro 2096 and put it in a Pro 2055. I Have heard that would be bettter off just buying a new scanner but i am just wondering if this is possible at all. Radio shack Should have made their scanners so when digital trucking came out you can just get a new board and become digital capable.

Thanks

Is it possible? Yes, if you know what you are doing. Will it drop right in? No. You'd need to change the entire guts though, not just one board. If you like doing this type of thing as a hobby, great. If you are doing it to save money, you won't.

I actually happen to know a little about this first hand. But rather than take a board from one scanner and put it into another, I designed my own board. This was back when we needed crystals for every channel and CPU controlled scanners didn't exist. http://forums.radioreference.com/general-scanning-forum/107282-using-technology-enhance-scanning.html#post805465
It was not a cheap mod.
