I have both the Pro-528 and the Pro-162. I had the Pro-164 for one day. It all depends on do you need Tex-Tags and Tones. I was in the same boat as you, wanted a scanner to listen to my local police. On my pro-162 I have two counties and all area public saftey all texed and with tones set. Now for my local Police they run off a LTR system with just three ID's. They also use the State Police frequencies, which is only another seven frequencies. I don't need tags and tones for my local police I know them just by listening. So the pro-528 is a perfect scanner for my local use. It's a good little scanner without allot of bells and whistles and is allot cheaper than the 162. The pro-162 is great for me also because I have allot of things programmed into it, which I do need to have texed and tones set. As for the pro-164 to me it was junk, I didn't like it at all for reasons I stated in a couple of other threads. So I guess it boils down to is how deep are your pockets...........Ray
