PGM, TRUNK, FUNC (up or down buttons) to the correct trunked bank. Up or down arrows to scroll thru the ids in that bank, L/O to turn that ID on or off. SCAN....

OR

www.starrsoft.com and download Don's WIN95 program. This gives you a wonderful GUI to manage the scanner frequencies, IDs, and features. AND IT"S FREE! (although I'll bet Don wouldn't turn down a donation...)

I have mine set up with Law Enforcement in one trunked bank and Fire/EMS in a seperate bank. This gives me twice the number of talkgroup ID slots and lets me choose with a single button whether I want to listen to just Law Enforcement, just Fire/EMS, or both.....

in our town ems is run by the fire department there are 2 private ems services though

We had that in a city I used to live in up by Kansas City. County EMS and a private ambulance service that managed to hire a few EMTs to staff their vehicles. Dispatchers were required to "rotate" the call-out unless one or the other was specified by the caller. It was pretty well known that unless it was a routine transfer, you wanted to specify County EMS. Mortality rate was a wee bit higher for those picked up by the private ambulance....

The State finally got around to authorizing Advanced Life Support (ALS) and the local medical society set the protocols so that ANY trauma situation required an ALS response. The private company just wasn't going to pay for the required equipment and personnel for ALS responses 24/7. Now all they do is inter-hospital transfers and take-homes....

The Pro-95 must be in CLOSED mode for the ID L/O to work. But if it is in CLOSED mode, you will only hear the ID's you already have programmed. This was a problem in early GRE built scanenrs but was finally fixed with the Pro-96.

The Pro-97, at least mine, lets you lock out channels in open mode well. The easy to read manual says it has to be closed, but it doesn't seem that that is correct.

Yes, the Pro-97 came after the Pro-96.

This problem exists on all versions of the Pro-92/2067, the Pro-93 & Pro-95.

And since no one has said it already, to make the scanner go to closed, or open mode, hit FUNC & 5 at the same time.

In reading through the posts here, the instructions seem a bit confusing. So I feel a recap is needed for clarification.
1. Since you are asking about "talk groups", a trunked system is assumed. The bank which contains the trunked system must first be closed. While scanning a "-" will appear under the bank number if it is closed. If a "+" appears under the bank number, go to manual mode, navigate to the bank (any channel) and press FUNC 5. A message should briefly display indicating that the bank has been closed.

2. With a closed bank, only programmed, non-locked-out talkgroups with its associated sub group turned on will be heard. If only police and fire talkgroups are programmed, you're in biz.

3. But your original question was how to lock out talk groups. So perhaps you're past all of the above, and you still want to lock out something you've programmed. While a talkgroup is talking you can press L_OUT to lock it out. Otherwise to toggle the lockout status of a talkgroup; go to manual mode, navigate to the bank, press FUNC TRUNK, navigate to the talkgroup. Now you can press L_OUT to toggle the status of that talkgroup. An "L" will display when the talkgroup is locked out.

Good luck
