Is anyone using a Pro-95 hooked up to a PC.

I picked up the Realistic Scanner Programming Cable yesterday and although it states that it will operate with the Pro-95, no go. The scanner name is not listed, starts at Pro-96 on.Upon conversation with the software company, they informed me that it DOES does support it. The cable I purchased does allow the scanner to be seen properly in the device manager.

So my question is does anyone have the previous software that did support the Pro-95 or any way to input freqs via my PC utilizing this cable....

effx, I have a RS Pro-95 and use WIN500 from starrsoft (dot) com to upload and download to it.
So your USB RS PC Programming cable needs to be used with the "MONO" adapter to work
with the Pro-95 (also Pro-92,93,96 models etc.) The Pro-97 and up don't need the mono adapter
and these newer models have their PC/IF jacks pinned out with 2-ring 3-conductor *stereo" jacks.
Also, many of the RS stores still have stock of the discontinued RS 20-047 Programming Cables
which is what I use. I see no reason the newer cable with the adapter won't work for you.
Q: What software are you using (a free trial version?) You should download WIN95 for your 95 :)
Q: Does your software at least recognize the USB programming cable and you selected the
correct com port ? Any blinking LED's on the cable observed ?

btw ~ That older RS 20-047 discontinued cable is selling way cheap (under $10 ish in most stores)
This is my reminder to grab me another GREat cable deal while the going is good and not $35 bucks !

I am using Windows 7 and the cable is rocognized in my device manager as properly working. The cable has a flashing LED that is blinking and seems to be communicating with my gaming rig just fine.

Now I just need a software that will work for uploading and downloading freqs., etc.

The software that came with the cable was from actually here. Available for a trial download. Tried the disk that came with the cable and then also the free download from Radio Reference and it's the same.

Seems to work perfect. I checked the device cable in device manager and found it was set for COM 4.
Reset the software to the COM PORT and hit download from scanner and it worked.
Adding the additional mono cable was also the ticket.

Several calls to Radio Shack, the other software company, and a corporate office and I never found anyone knowledgeable. Not a single person could help. Posting a quick note on our forum site and the answer was solved within minutes.

Thank you both..

If you're using Win500 to upload and download from a Pro-95 you're likely the first. Win500 won't work with the Pro-95. Try Win95 (free from Starrsoft.com) instead.

From Don Starr's cable page:

" . . . comes with an "adapter" - a stereo-to-mono adapter approximately 4 inches long. That adapter is not required for any GRE-made scanner, and it must not be used with the PSR-500 family scanners."

Pro-95 problems resolved

Thank you to all. Win95 worked fine after setting the COM PORT to COM 4 and utilizing the mono adapter cord with the Programming Cable.

Definitely bait of a challenge until I posted it here. The software provided by RS with the cable does not support the Pro-95 and the options only start at Pro-96.

Cable was always communicating properly and the light flickered. Looking it up in the Device Manager allowed me to see what PORT it was communicating with.

RS nor the customer support with the software they provided could assist or knew anything that would work with this scanner. You all knew your stuff.

OK TES and the other Mike, instead of typing WIN500 I meant to type WIN95 ... as I said later in my post, etc.
Darn it, I had better start prQQf reading or I might be the next one to be banned for the greater good ... :))

Ha~I'm still waiting to hear back from this guy (in another post) about his magical $30 Pro-107 to 107 clonning cable :)

Just because they sell it doesn't mean they understand it, go in to a RS store if you think that was bad, they will have no clue what a scanner is, let alone how to use it.
