Pro 95 Squelch Problem

I have a Pro 95 that sat idle for a year. Just charged the batteries and turned it on, but now all I get is a constant hiss and the squelch knob has no effect. Receiver is working, I can hear transmissions. Already tried the reset and full initialization, no help.
