The battery cover on my PRO-96 is broken. Does anyone know how to go about ordering a new one. Radio Shack has been no help.

Radio Shack could help you if they wanted to. Sounds like they're just being lazy. They'll be the next one to go out of business.

Give GRE a call. I'm fairly certain the part listed below is the same.

According to the Pro-96 parts list it looks like catalog #12410833 and NP part #DB91385 ("COVER ASSY BATTERY"). To order try calling the number at the top of the parts list, 800-843-7422, or go to Radio Shack and ask for that part.

From a recent experience, I think they now refer to the catalog number as the RSU number.

No Help

I have talked to the Radio Shack 800 number, no help.

Called the local Radio Shack and they were unable to find the part either. Any other ideas?

Have you referenced the actual part numbers when calling the 800 number? Did you tell the local store that it isn't a regular stock number but rather an RSU part number?

I suggest you go in and talk to a manager in person. Recently I ordered a few Pro-96 belt clips and a battery cartridge. The first sales rep I spoke with tried to find what I wanted but couldn't get anything to match the numbers I provided, and couldn't find it separately. The manager came over and eventually found them, apparently in a different system altogether. It was as if the sales rep was searching the store inventory system (like 20-526 = Pro-96) whereas the manager found it in a separate parts inventory system.

Both the manager and rep were surprised at the success, and wondered where I got the part numbers from. Without those numbers I'm not sure they could have ever found them.

If/when you go in, stress that it isn't a stock number but rather an RSU parts number for ordering a component from the warehouse. In person it won't be so easy to blow you off.

FWIW the battery covers on the PSR500 and Pro-96 are NOT the same.

That may be, which is why I suggested giving them a call to confirm. In any event GRE might still be able to help, considering they made the PRO-96 for Radio Shack.

If by saying that "Radio Shack has been no help" did you mean to say that the battery cover is no longer available from RSU parts? I did check the parts database and it says the battery door is not in stock. GRE made the scanner for Radio Shack. If they also do not have any available then try to find someone that has one that they are parting out.

Maybe your's are.............

covers on the 93,96 & 97 are the same....

Posting inaccurate info really doesn't help anyone. The battery covers are NOT the same on the 97 and 96 (I don't have a 93 so I can't comment on that one).

Just for kicks I called RS to try to order a spare battery cover and belt clip for my Pro-96 and I got the run a round for about 45min. I called the regular RS number and they said they couldn't help me with parts and to go to radioshack.partsearch.com to order the parts. I tried looking up part numbers listed above and couldn't. I called the number listed on the website and could never get to a live person. The automated person on the phone would say press 1 then 2 then 5 then 1 and it didn't work. Tried another menu option it said press 1 then 2 then 4 still no live person. So I think I am going to print off the part numbers and try my luck at the local RS store.

Thanks to the posters that have supplied the RSU number, I will attempt to order a replacement for a slightly damaged cover this weekend.
I am not really interested in taking this thread off topic. But I would love to see a photo of your 96/97 cover swap because measuring and checking on my units shows they are NOT the same. The small tabs (both top and bottom) and their corresponding slots are spaced differently on the 96 and 97. The covers from a 97 WILL fit a PSR-500 or a PRO-106 since they all share a common rear case.
By the way I don't know it all, but I do know this. You may want to double check your parts. ;)

Last year I order the whole case from Radioshack, now in need of a new clip and having the same problems.

Called 866-910-7278 and they do not have the item available anymore they told me this twice. Also called 800-The-shac with no luck and they told me to call the 866 number anyway.

I will attempt to contact GRE and see what happens but it seems if you get the part to buy a few of them just incase unless anyone else has tips on who to try next?

Thanks
Steve
