I've got a 8-10 year old Pro-96 that had been working fine. Now when it boots up it displays
TUNE D AM
25.0000000
PAUSED

Nothing on the keypad works. Tried resetting and reinitializing it without luck. Any ideas (besides buy a new scanner)

Thanks

Is it possible that the keypad is locked? I had a Pro-96 years ago. I don't remember if the keypad lock would stay on thru a restart or not.

Lehigh4me has the right idea. I was able to recreate TUNE stuck on, keyboard froze- booting up after welcome screen* with Keyboard locked on my Pro96. Pressing the Function button - then *light button should disable the lock. If not? it's busted

From the manual -
1) "Press FUNC LOCK to disable keypad lock"

* What I suspect -
2) "Scanner will not scan when SCAN key is pressed" -
"No channels programmed, or only one channel programmed, or all channels locked out"

When you reset it the programmed memory is erased.
"This procedure clears all information you stored in the scanner’s working memory. Initialize the scanner only when you are sure the scanner is not working properly. V-Scanner memory is not affected when the scanner is initialized"

Keyboard lock is a wonderful feature when you long ago forgot the intricate steps to unlock it.

I have one of these radios still running too.

My guess is it is older than the 8-10 years you indicated.

The only time I have ever dealt with that feature was to figure out how to defeat it, just like in your case.

Radio still works terrific though. Can't kill it. Has been running 24/7 since purchased, as soon as released for sale.

It would take me a while to figure out how to program it again at this point.

I have a pro-96 for 10 years still great. I pick up a UHF P-25 system 15 miles away very clear while my SDS 100 sitting right next to it
is totally deaf to the same system!

The 96 was a very sensitive "hot" receiver in its day, and is still a good competitor in that category along with some of the earlier GRE radios.

Mine has been monitoring a Motorola P25 digital voice system that never had to reband. Also a couple P25 Military system sites. It's been running for as many years as the 96 has existed. Never been turned off. Indestructible.

Occasionally I need to do research to remember how to do something on it, like adding a new talkgroup or something.

Other than that, it's been running constantly, with the back light on the whole time.

I have not found any system the sds100 or 200 cannot receive yet. At times I thought so, but would find a corrupt favorites list or something. There are several systems only these 2 radios can reliably receive.
